For those who are new to holidaying on the Islands, here you will find all the information you need regarding travel to and from Scilly and inter-island travel during your stay.
Travel to the Isles of Scilly is usually made via one of three modes of transport; the Scillonian ferry, Penzance Helicopters or Skybus airplanes. Each of these transport methods will bring you to the largest central island of St. Marys where you will be dropped at the harbour in order to catch a connecting boat to St. Martins. Mandy will meet you off the boat on St.Martins and bring you to your accommodation to welcome you.
The Scillonian departs from Penzance quay and takes approximately two and a half hours to reach St. Marys. Luggage checked into the Scillonian’s hold will be automatically transferred to the appropriate inter-island boat. For St. Martins this will usually be the Voyager, however all boat times and destinations will be listed on St. Marys’ Quay.
The Skybus planes depart from Lands End, Newquay and Exeter airports. To reach St. Marys’ airport, the flight from Penzance takes approximately 20 minutes while from Newquay it takes 30 minutes and an hour from Exeter. Once disembarked, you will be transferred down to St. Marys’ quay to catch your connecting boat to St. Martins.
Should you need a taxi service to Lands End airport, a shuttle bus is available to book that will collect you from outside Penzance Train Station.
Penzance Helicopters’ service runs from the heliport on the edge of Penzance town. These flights take approximately 25 minutes to arrive at St. Marys’ Airport where, once disembarked, you will take a taxi to St. Marys’ quay to catch your connecting boat to St. Martins.
A two and a half hour leisurely cruise from Penzance harbour, along the coast of Cornwall and towards the Islands.
Flying from Penzance Airport, the helicopter takes 25 minutes into St. Marys or Tresco. A great option for those travelling with pets.
Flying from Lands End, Newquay or Exeter, the Skybus is a quick and flexible method for a scenic flight over to Scilly.
To make the most of your time on Scilly, we recommend you take the opportunity to explore what each of the unique islands have to offer. With Bryher’s rugged beauty, St. Agnes’ artistic flair, Tresco’s luxurious decadence and St. Marys’ lively bustle, there is plenty to explore. Managed by St.Mary’s Boatman’s Association, trips are made daily between various islands all throughout the summer season. The boating schedule is continually updated with what trips are rostered, so getting about The Isles of Scilly couldn’t be easier.
